Romance comes with lusty blindness, but eventually those rose tinted lenses fade (possibly from prolonged UV exposure like the curtains- or possibly from the acrid fumes of too many farts waved our from under the blankets). As your addled gaze has is visual accuity corrected, how many chinks in the armour can the relationship take?
I found myself in an argument last week as my "significant other" listed himself as a Buddho-Jedi on the Census.
After first establishing that he hadn't put it down because he thought it would be funny (which was a great relief, because hopefully by 31 your sense of humour has developed a bit more than that!), I asked, "so why?".
Because it's the closest thing to what I believe.
Do you believe in the "force"?
No
Do you believe in life after death?
Not sure
Do you think you will become an apparition like Yoda and able to communicate after death?
No.
Have you ever read about or attended a Jedi event?
No.
Okay... so Buddhist.... do you believe in reincarnation?
Not sure.
And you have no problem eating meat...
Of course not.
So in my mind I'm fairly satisfied that in not practising a religion, or believing in a large proportion of their central philosophical bases, that would probably mean you're NOT a member of that religion!
Just one of those moments in time where you start to wonder about someone's intelligence and find you're not able to respect them as you did before.
While the soft glow of the rose tinted lenses was probably an illusion, they did make the world look nice. Can they ever be restored or replaced?
It feels a bit like finding out there's no Santa all over again.
Backwards to a Foreword
I started these writings with the intent of making mostly comedic style social observations. But opinions are like arseholes- everyone's got one- and as if often the way- the original intent is not what has eventuated, as the darker side of my mind has been very much in control lately.
All my writings are essentially a point of view or recollections of lived experiences. As with witness statements, which are not admissible as evidence in court due to the high rate of inaccuracy- sometimes what I feel, think or remember won't be the same as other people who may have been present for the same events.
They are my thoughts, feelings and memories, and may not necessarily represent those of people represented in them.
